Vimeo alternatives for delivering and reviewing client video (2026)
Vimeo does three jobs at once: it hosts video, publishes it and lets people review it. People look for a Vimeo alternative because they only use one of the three, or because per-seat pricing doesn’t fit. Here’s how the options compare, based on what you actually use, including where Positiva doesn’t fit.
Pick by what you use Vimeo for.
The short version. The details, prices and sources are below.
| If you need… | Best pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Deliver video and photos to a client, and get their feedback | Positiva | Branded gallery, frame-accurate comments and no cost per reviewer |
| Collect files from clients or suppliers without them creating an account | Dropbox Replay | It uses Dropbox file requests, included on every Dropbox plan; Positiva has file requests on the Studio plan only |
| Review inside a post-production team | Frame.io | Range comments, annotations and Camera to Cloud |
| Review video and audio where your files already live | Dropbox Replay | An add-on to your Dropbox, with lossless audio |
| Publish, embed and live stream video | Stay on Vimeo | Nothing on this list hosts public video or streams live |
Why people leave Vimeo (and why many stay).
Vimeo is priced per seat: Starter is $144/seat/year ($12/month), Standard $300/seat/year ($25/month) and Advanced $900/seat/year ($75/month), with 2, 4 and 7 TB of storage. According to its help center, review links (time-coded comments on the timeline, and guests who can comment without an account) need Standard or higher: on Starter, review is a trial version, and the free plan gets one review link per video. These are the reasons that come up when people look for a Vimeo alternative:
- You pay for hosting and publishing even if all you do is review. Pricing is per seat, and review links only work from Standard, at $300/seat/year ($25/month).
- Comments don’t reach your editor. You can download them, but we couldn’t find an integration with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro in Vimeo’s official documentation that brings them into the timeline as markers.
- Photos are left out. Vimeo portfolios are video only, so a mixed wedding or campaign delivery needs a second tool.
- Custom-domain portfolios don’t get SSL. Vimeo documents that SSL isn’t supported on portfolios with an external domain, and in 2026 any browser points that out.
And the reason to stay: if you publish (video embedded on your website, a showcase you send to brands, live events), Vimeo does something none of these alternatives does. Switching to save on review and losing public hosting usually goes badly.
How we compared: we read each tool’s official pricing page and help center on October 17, 2026, and compared them on what someone leaving Vimeo decides on: delivery to the client, review and comments, getting comments into the editor, photos, portfolio and publishing, and pricing model. Full sources at the end.
Each option, same questions.
Positiva
What it does well
- Positiva doesn’t host video for publishing: it delivers it. Your client opens a branded gallery, plays the cut right there and comments on the exact frame (no account, nothing to install); comments export as markers: EDL for DaVinci Resolve, FCPXML for Final Cut Pro. Author and Studio plans
- No cost per reviewer: anyone with the link can comment, whether it’s one person or a committee.
- Photos and video in the same gallery and the same link, with favorites and comments on both.
- Links that don’t expire, each with its own password and download quality.
- Free plan with 15 GB and 2 active galleries, no card required.
- Files: folders for your material in any format, link transfers, and file requests so clients, collaborators or suppliers can upload without creating an account (up to 150 GB per file). Studio plan
Limitations
- Not a public video host. There’s no embeddable player for your website and no live streaming.
- No automatic transcription or subtitles.
- Plays H.264 and HEVC video (no ProRes playback) and JPEG photos; no audio-only review.
- Storage is per plan: 250 GB or 1 TB, versus Vimeo’s 2 to 7 TB.
- Video comments need a paid plan, and our help center is in Spanish only for now.
Price: Free, €0 (15 GB, 2 active galleries). Author: €89/year + VAT (or €8.95/month), 250 GB. Studio: €219/year + VAT (or €22.95/month), 1 TB, with proofing rounds and file requests.
We wouldn’t pick it if what you need is public video hosting for your website or social media.
Frame.io
What it does well
- Frame-accurate comments, range comments and drawn annotations.
- A comment panel inside Premiere Pro, plus CSV and text export.
- Camera to Cloud: footage uploads straight from the shoot.
- Handles photos too, with its own viewer and review links. With Creative Cloud, a free plan with 100 GB.
Limitations
- Priced per member: Pro allows up to 5 members, Team up to 15.
- Frame.io’s V4 guide says DaVinci Resolve will not be supported in V4 (you can still import comments exported as EDL into Resolve).
- No public portfolio and no embeddable video hosting.
- The free plan is 2 GB, 2 members and 2 projects.
Price: Pro: $180/member/year ($15/month) + tax, 2 TB. Team: $300/member/year ($25/month) + tax, 3 TB. Annual billing saves 13%, but the exact annual figure isn’t in their public table.

Dropbox Replay
What it does well
- Video and audio review, with lossless audio.
- Transcription and captions, version comparison and due dates.
- Password-protected links and digital watermarking.
- Files up to 150 GB and 12 hours long.
Limitations
- Two subscriptions: the add-on plus the Dropbox plan it requires.
- Without the add-on, usage is limited to 4 or 10 files, depending on your Dropbox plan.
- Frame-synced comments are only documented from DaVinci Resolve; markers import in Final Cut Pro and After Effects.
- No portfolio, no photo galleries and no public hosting.
Price: $120/user/year ($10/month billed annually; $12/month billed monthly), plus the Dropbox plan: Plus from $119.88/year ($9.99/month billed annually).
Vimeo
What it does well
- An embeddable player and showcases on paid plans; live streaming on Advanced.
- Portfolio websites from Standard, with password protection.
- Review links with time-coded comments; reviewers don’t need a Vimeo account.
- 2 TB of storage already on Starter.
Limitations
- Priced per seat, and review links need Standard or higher.
- You can download comments, but we couldn’t find an editor integration.
- Portfolios are video only: photos are left out.
- Portfolios on a custom domain don’t support SSL.
- Starter accounts created before June 17, 2024 keep a 60-video limit.
Price: Starter: $144/seat/year ($12/month), 2 TB. Standard: $300/seat/year ($25/month), 4 TB. Advanced: $900/seat/year ($75/month), 7 TB. Their public table doesn’t break down monthly vs annual billing.

Split hosting from review and it gets easy.
If you publish video, stay on Vimeo, even if you review somewhere else. If you review as a team and shoot to the cloud, Frame.io. If your files live in Dropbox and there’s audio involved, Replay.
And if the person who needs to see the cut is your client (who will then want the photos too, and to download everything, from a link that doesn’t expire), Positiva covers that whole path. See how it works for production companies, or try it free with 15 GB.
The questions that matter.
Which Vimeo alternative lets my client comment on the video?
Positiva (on the Author and Studio plans) and Frame.io let clients comment on the exact frame; Vimeo uses time-coded comments on its review links. In Positiva the reviewer comes in by link, with no account, and in Vimeo guests can also comment without a Vimeo account.
Can any of them export comments to my editing software?
Positiva exports comments as markers for DaVinci Resolve (EDL) and Final Cut Pro (FCPXML), on the Author and Studio plans. Frame.io has a comment panel in Premiere Pro and exports to CSV or text. Dropbox Replay imports them as markers in Final Cut Pro and After Effects. Vimeo lets you download comments, but we couldn’t find an editor integration in its official documentation.
Which is cheapest if I only review with clients?
The ones that don’t charge per seat. Vimeo, Frame.io and Dropbox Replay multiply the price by member, seat or user; in Positiva reviewers come in by link, and the price doesn’t change with the number of people giving feedback.
Can I replace Vimeo if I use it to embed video on my website?
Not with the alternatives on this page: none of them hosts public video with an embeddable player or streams live. If you publish and also review, the sensible move is to split the two jobs between two tools.
What about photos?
Vimeo and Dropbox Replay are video tools (Replay also handles audio). Frame.io supports photos with its own viewer and review links. Positiva delivers and reviews photos and video in the same gallery, with favorites and comments on both.
How much storage do I really need?
It depends on whether you archive or just deliver. Vimeo starts at 2 TB because it assumes your catalog lives there; a delivery tool needs less, because the originals stay on your drive. The 250 GB on Positiva’s Author plan cover plenty of active deliveries, but not a full archive.
